Falcons look to trade rights to Vick

by Falcons

“With regards to Michael Vick, we’ve decided to seek a trade of his contractual rights to another NFL club,” Dimitroff said in a Q & A with AtlantaFalcons.com. “We took a number of steps in the 2008 season, including using our first pick to draft a quarterback. We feel a trade is the best move for the Falcons, and it’s also in the best interest of Michael.

We knew this was coming it isn’t any kind of surprise but I want to pose a question to all of you readers and ask if your team had a chance at one of the best athletes in the games history would you take a chance?

Which team has the most to gain by taking the most infamous player in recent history?

I am going to put out a thought or two and I want to see what people think about it.

 1. Vick goes to Seattle, where he is coached by Jim Mora Jr. whom had the most success in coaching Vick in his professional career. The way I see things the Seahawks need to make a splash this coming season because of their astonishing fall from grace in the NFC West.

Vick is the kind of guy who makes things happen on the football field and brings excitement and must be accounted for by defensive coordinators no matter where he is on the field.

 2. Vick goes to Minnesota. Tavaris Jacksonis like Michael Vick in that he is an inconsistent passer who possesses strong athletic ability and can win and/or lose a game on his own.  The Vikings need a solid player behind center to give them a chance to realize their potential and Vick has proven his ability to win playoff games if he has good talent around him.

So those are my thoughts. What say you?

I agree he doesn't fit into the mold of good players and I am impressed at how much time you spent on this response. I will just say that Vick's skill set could fit into a team that to me lacks a lot of athleticism at the wide receiver position and anyone could use a fast return guy, especially one who has certainly lost ground in a division they once dominated in the recent past.

Tim Ruskell has been building a "character team" in Seattle since he got there. Seattle has cut or not pursued good talent due to off field problems and things like that. Seattle has parted way with:

-Ken Hamlin (2007 Pro Bowl Alt, 2008 Pro Bowl)
-Ken Lucas (2005 Pro Bowl),
-Koren Robinson (they signed him back this year, but cut him in 2005 even though he had 1000+ yards in '02 and '03).
-Chike Okeafor (8+ sacks for Cards)
-Darrell Jackson (1000+ yards in 2004, 2003, 2006)

Not only have they parted ways with players, but signed players with high character:

-Julian Peterson (also a sick player)
-Deon Grant
-Patrick Kerney
-Deion Branch
-Brian Russell

They've given huge contract extensions to "NFL Good Guys" to:

-Lofa Tatupu
-Marcus Trufant

And they've drafted smart, hard working players:

-John Carlson
-Lawrence Jackson
-Brandon Mebane
-Kelly Jennings (though he is a terrible player)
-Josh Wilson
-Ben Obomanu
-Darryl Tapp
-Baraka Atkins

Michael Vick just doesn't fit into a mix of guys like this.

Not a chance he ends up in Seattle.
