Vick: From a Falcons fan’s perspective

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: None Yet

“I believe in second chances,” Blank said shortly before the NFL owners’ meetings ended in South Florida. “I believe in redemption.”

Arthur Blank wants to see Michael Vick play in the NFL and so do a lot of people.  I want to see Vick play because I do believe in vindication and I do believe that people can change.
The animal right activists will protest the day that Vick is reinstated and they will protest at the first game and fans will boo and mock mercilessly and to that I say “Good for you” I won’t because that time has passed,  [...]

Thoughts on Michael Vick

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

So tomorrow the Vick saga moves away from Levenworth, KS and the media will turn their attention to Michael Vick and his 2 months of home incarceration and his eventual NFL return attempt.

Now let me say that I am not exonerating Vick and I will not defend the man’s actions but I will not condemn a man who has paid his debt to society.
Do I feel that the sentence that Vick got was light? Yes I do. Do I feel that the guy deserves to play in the NFL again? Yes, because in my opinion there are not 32 better QB’s in [...]

Taylor signs with ‘Phins and makes ‘Skins look like idiots

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Miami Dolphins did it, they made out like freaking bandits today signing Jason Taylor on a 1 year 1.5 million dollar deal that is probably the biggest slap in the face to the Washington Redskins organization yet.
What we learned from this new development:
 1. The Washington Redskins look like dolts. They traded 2 count ‘em 2 draft picks including a 2nd rounder for Jason Taylor to miss several games due to various injuries and cut the guy after one year because Taylor refused to participate in offseason conditioning drills. Dan Snyder really laid an egg on this one folks.
 2. Jason Taylor really wanted to [...]

2009 season playoff predictions

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

I have been reading some interesting columns today online about NFL teams that will fall out of the playoffs from last year and some new “chic” teams that should take their place.  So here is my version of how I see things working in 2009.
AFC teams that will make the jump:
New England:  When was the last time the Patriots weren’t in the playoffs? It feels like an eternity. Tom Brady will come in a do what Tom Brady does, Win.
If you want more proof that they will return to form, look at the schedule and their division. Which no [...]

Ones to watch: Peria Jerry Atlanta Falcons

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: None Yet

As the Atlanta Falcons toil in the warm Georgia sun and the Falcons faithful see the new draft class play.  How did the Falcons do in the draft and did we improve?
The draft is more important than anything else in the NFL, it is the lifeblood of the league and the most compelling part of the season for many teams.

I began to think about my beloved Falcons and their first round selection Peria Jerry. Jerry is not a really well known player around many circles and was not highly touted in the pre-draft build-up and is considered a good not [...]

Favre made the right choice

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: None Yet

So it looks like Favre won’t be playing after all. Whooo, that was a close one.
I will stand behind my comments on Favre and that he is a dick. I will also say that I feel the guy did the right thing by not signing with Minnesota. Now, I am not thinking that there isn’t a chance that the guy doesn’t play in 2009 but I will say that the choice so far not to play is alright by this little blogger. So here is something I don’t do very often, I am going to commend Brett and say “You [...]

Favre is a dick

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Breaking News, Rumors | COMMENTS: 10 Comments

So last summer Brett Favre forces his way out of Green Bay and onto the Jets. We all know the story but word is that now Brett Favre is angry at the Packers franchise and wants back into the NFC North. With Matthew Stafford in Detroit and Jay Cutler in Chi-town that leaves only Minnesota. Favre wants to face the Packers and beat them and to that I say this, Brett Favre you need to get a damned life man. I mean you are retired for what? 20 minutes and already you want back into the NFL again? What did [...]

Wolverine

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: None Yet

The summer blockbuster season is finally upon us again. Fun, big budget escapist fare that makes tons of money and entertains the living crap out of us. X Men Origins: Wolverine is the first out of the gate and the result is an overwhelming yawn.

You see Woverine is not so much bad as it is just kinda stupid. Hugh Jackman is good as usual but good just isn’t good enough when you are talking a movie where finally Wolverine is the only real focus of the film.
The movie begins in Canada in 1845 with a couple of kids. You see James is in bed [...]
