Falcons need defense…now!

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: None Yet

We are three weeks into the preseason and so far the falcons have given up an average of 185 passing yards per game. Is that awful? No but it is not good and I want to see the Falcons address it, and address it it appears they want to do too.  So let’s focus on some waiver wire guys out there and available now who could come in and help us.
Chris McAlister: He is one of my favorite cornerbacks to ever play the game. Big body, great hands and man can he move. But his off season knee surgery has scared [...]

Go see Big Fan

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: None Yet

Big Fan is the directorial debut of Robert D. Siegel the critically acclaimed writer of The Wrestlerand let me tell you he chose a worthy project. Siegel also wrote this story of an obsessive fan of the NY football Giants and the lengths he will go to protect his favorite player who attacked him.
Patton Oswalt plays Paul Aufiero a parking lot attendant and general nobody in the world who is constantly abused and berated in his daily life and who attempts to escape his inadequacies through his obsessive love of the Giants. Paul lives at home with his mom and [...]

The Rundown

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: None Yet

My observations on Football, Pop Culture and anything else I damn well please.
So the NFL preseason is in full swing, Favre is back… again. Plaxico Burress is going to be in jail longer than Vick for shooting… himself ! and does anyone actually watch Hard Knocks to actually watch the Bengals? The responses are: Yawn, HAHAHA and CHILD PLEASE!

Can someone please explain to me when I should start caring about Brett Favre? He is a self important overhyped asshole who has practically hijacked the sports media for the last 18 or so months. I say it ends now and the reason is [...]

Purple lame

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: None Yet

Brett Favre did what we all knew he would do. Somewhere deep down inside we all knew this day was coming and come it did.
Actually, I really used to like him a lot but his leaving Green Bay and his complete disregard for his fans and his folk hero status in Wisconsin made me change my mind.
I feel that certain players trancend the sports they play or become a part of the fabric of a community or a franchise. Can you imagine Ted Williams in Yankee pinstripes or John Elway playing for the Chiefs?!
You see Favre broke the cardinal sin in sports. [...]

Falcons lose pre-season game but…

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: None Yet

What an we learn from the Falcons 1 point last second loss in Detroit? A lot if you ask me.
First off let’s start off with the positives:
Strong Side Linebacker Stephen Nicholas will be a force for this team. He moves well to the ball and has good instincts and I feel he will be a solid replacement for Keith Brooking.
The secondary as a whole impressed the hell out of me. Now, this is the Lions so I am not going to say we will be the Ravens or anything, but I have to say that Chris Houston and Brent Grimes [...]

Roddy White just got paid!

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Atlanta Falcons just extended Roddy White. According to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com: A source said White’s deal is for six years and $50 million ($18 million guaranteed). It makes him the second-highest paid receiver in the NFL behind Arizona’s Larry Fitzgerald, who averages $10 million a year.
This is huge for the Falcons as they look to continue their success and maintain the momentum that took them to the playoffs last year and after the injury bug bit the receiving corps with the loss of Harry Douglas earlier this week.
 WELCOME BACK RODDY!

John Hughes

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: None Yet

From time to time I like to get off of the Falcons and world of sports and focus on some other parts of the world at large. In this case I want to talk about John Hughes.
For anyone my age, I am 30 John Hughes films were an ever present part of our lives: Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Uncle Buck, Home Alone, Planes, Trains & Automobiles and Weird Science were so popular and so well done that when i heard that he had died it reminded me about how much of my youth was defined by his movies.

Confirmed: Harry Douglas out for season

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: None Yet

Flowery Branch, GA.
Harry Douglas a 2nd year wide receiver who played in all 16 games last season injured his knee yesterday on one-on-one drills. According to reports he went down and required two guys to help him onto the cart.
Douglas was getting first team offense reps with Roddy White holding out and from what I heard he looked very good.

Roddy White holdout update

AUTHOR: The Dirty Bird | IN: Falcons | COMMENTS: None Yet

Word out of Flowery Branch, GA says that the Falcons are negotiating a contract extension as I write this. The word on the street is that White is seeking something close to Larry Fitzgerald money (4 years 40 million) while the Falcons are more comfortable with Greg Jennings money (9 million over 3 years with performance incentives up to 30mil ).
Let’s just put this out there right now. This is a smart front office and Arthur Blankhas proven himself as an owner that is willing to pay for to flight talent. This is a hold out that is not acrimonious and both [...]
