It was a huge victory, both in it’s scope and in it meaning. The Falcons, coming off of a tough loss in Foxboro, MA in week 3 and a bye week in week 4 the Falcons flew across the country to the city by the bay and to face a physical 49ers defense and the NFC’s most unlikely win-at-all-costs QB Shaun Hill.
The Falcons were not given much chance in this game by the local and national media. NFL Network said this would be the game to determine if the Falcons or the 49ers were ready to be taken seriously. Well, I guess we know now after the 45-10 stomping at Candlestick.
Mike Smith’s guys were focused from the start and the Falcons got career days from both Matt Ryan and Roddy White. It was White who set a new franchise record for receiving yards and it is Ryan who controlled an offense that refused to be pushed around. White was a revelation on this day and he once again showed why he is the most underrated wide receiver in the the NFC and possibly the NFL. 200+ yards 2 TDs, it was a blowout by halftime.
If you want to know why this team was so good on Sunday you need only look at the 49ers and the way they played. Slow and sluggish they didn’t have the intensity they needed to face a top 5 offense let alone the Cleveland Browns.
What we Know: The Falcons are for real folks, they have the ability to play anyone in the NFL and I am excitied for next week in the dome against da’ Bears!
