The Falcons Draft Day: Defensive Ends Edition

Blogging Dirty and the Fansided Network continue their partnership through draft day. Be sure to follow all the action and Watch Inside the Draft Live.

The Falcons biggest need heading into tonight’s (and Friday’s and Saturday’s) draft is Defensive End, according to CBS Sports. ESPN agrees an off-the-edge pass rusher is the Falcons greatest weakness.

So who are the best in this year’s draft and which ones will likely fall to the Falcons at 19? It’s unanimous on both CBS & ESPN.

Morgan will likely be gone by the time the Falcons pick but Pierre-Paul might be there and Griffin will almost certainly be there, but he is a reach at 19. He’s more likely a late first round, early second round candidate.

There’s been a lot of the B word thrown around when it comes to Pierre-Paul. Falcons fans fear his bust potential because Jamaal Anderson and his 2.5 sacks in three season is still fresh on their minds.

Because Morgan will be gone and Pierre-Paul is a “project” and Griffen is a reach at 19, I see the Falcons grabbing a different position in round one.

We’ll break down the other positions of need throughout the day on this NFL Draft Day 2010.

What do you think? If they go strictly with a DE, who’s your choice on this list? Do you hope they wait and grab a DE in later rounds? Let me hear it in the comments.

If the Falcons pick a DE at 19, I would like to see them pick Pierre-Paul. He is really fast, and could be just what the Falcons need from a DE. I really believe he is less of a project then most think. Even with that being said I see the Falcons drafting a LB in the first round.

Good call on the LB in the first round prediction. Not only did they not take a DE in the first, they didn’t take one at all. I was surprised, but apparently they decided the interior line was more important.
