Falcons vs Seahawks - Three Key Matchups

Seahawks Safety Earl Thomas is one player to keep an eye on.

As on every sunday morning during the season I will look a which three areas will ultimately determine the outcome of the game. Here we go:-

  • Falcons LT Sam Baker vs Seahawks DE Chris Clemons – Sam Baker gets a spot in this segment for the fourth week in a row, as his play against his opposing number is vital for the Falcons success. He has clearly lost the matchups against Peppers, Trent Cole and Clayborne so far this year. This week it is the turn of Seahawks DE Chris Clemons to attack the under pressure Falcon. If Baker fails to stop Clemons this week, it could mean he will be benched for the foreseeable future.
  • Falcons DE Ray Edwards vs Seahawks OT James Carpenter – Ray has been great against the run so far this season and at times has provided some pass rush but hasn’t to this point registered a sack, look for him to get one this week against the Seahawks’ lacklustre pass protection. Ray will most likely be matched up against James Carpenter out of Alabama, who I loved coming out this year as a 2nd round guard/tackle. He was clearly over valued by Seattle and to all along I thought his ultimate position was as a Guard.
  • Falcons QB Matt Ryan vs Seattle S Earl Thomas – I was speaking to a few Seattle fans this week, they were raving about Earl Thomas, the former first round pick out of Texas. He is very strong in pass coverage and is always on the mind of opposing QB’s. Matty Ice, will have to make sure he knows where Thomas is at all times.
