Falcons vs Jaguars - Five Falcons That Need To Perform

Dominique Franks and Terrence Wheatley - New England Patriots v Atlanta Falcons

As the Falcons are on a short week so are we. Here are five Falcons that will be crucial in deciding the fate of the Falcons – Jaguars encounter on Thursday Night.

CB Dominique Franks – Last Week Franks had a few highs and a few lows, but is showing signs of improvement with experience. While he certainly isn’t facing a dominant passing attack this week, I am expecting a pretty dominant showing from the 2nd year corner.

DE Kroy Biermann – I am virtually fed up with people saying Biermann is going to break out and become a upper echelon pass rusher. On the field, he is getting some sort of pressure at times but just isn’t finishing plays. The missed sack opportunity against Cam Newton was really poor, you need to go low on a big guy like that. I’m hoping Smith will give some of Biermann’s snaps to up and coming Lawrence Sidbury.

QB Matt Ryan – Despite Jacksonville having a suspect overall record this season, their Defense and in particular their pass defense has really stepped up. Aside from the blip in Houston, Matt has been dialed in of late and should be a good matchup coming off a short week.

RB Michael Turner and O-Line – To combat the aforementioned Jags stern 4th ranked pass defense, expect the Falcons to use to run game early on offense. The O-Line did no favors for the Burner last week and he will need them if he is to spring any positive gains.

LB Curtis Lofton – Any time you face Maurice Jones Drew your linebackers need to be on their game and be able to locate them coming out of the backfield, especially considering MJD’s size. Lofton has been a beast all year and faces a stern challenge against MJD who is coming off a 4 touchdown day last week.
