Over the next few days the folks over at NFL Spin Zone will be announcing the Fansided NFL awards for the 2011 season. All 35 editors from the Fansided NFL sites had a ballot and i will be publishing my personal ballot over the next few days here on Blogging Dirty. Today we will look at the Offensive Rookie of the Year. Be sure to check out NFL Spin zone for the overall award announcements.
1) Julio Jones, WR, Atlanta Falcons
Julio was flat out terrific for the Falcons this year. Despite only featuring in 13 games (really 12 considering he missed half a game against the Packers) he gained 959 yards and 8 touchdowns and he done all this in an offense where he wasn’t the featured guy. I can’t wait to this guy to develop as he is going to be a beast!
2) Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers
While Cam did have a record setting year throwing and running the football, he doesn’t win this award as he ultimately failed to impress in the most important statistic victories. While 6 wins is a decent turnout for a rookie QB, the Panthers were in a position to win more and lost because of Cam Newton. See both game versus the Falcons for examples of how he blew late leads. Having said all that he did incredibly well and should have a bright future in the league.
3) AJ Green, WR, Cincinatti Bengals
Pre draft i had Green rated as my top player in the 2011 draft and he showed off exactly why the Bengals selected him 4th overall in the 2011 draft. Green went over 1,000 yards and had 7 touchdowns all with a rookie QB throwing him the ball.
