Fansided Awards - My Offensive Player Of The Year

Over the next few days the folks over at NFL Spin Zone will be announcing the Fansided NFL awards for the 2011 season. All 35 editors from the Fansided NFL sites had a ballot and i will be publishing my personal ballot over the next few days here on Blogging Dirty. Today we will look at the Defensive Player of the Year. Be sure to check out NFL Spin zone for the overall award announcements.

1) Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots

Brady’s stats were stunning in 2011, on the year he had 5,235 yards and 39 touchdowns. Brady’s contribuition is that bit more impressive considering his offensive line and running game aren’t great, and aside from Welker he has very few weapons on the outside. He has obviously had two great tight ends in Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski but when you compare his weapons and supporting cast to Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers he has had a lot less to work with.

2) Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers

A statistically great season from Rodgers, which obviously didn’t end like he would of hoped with a loss in their first game of the playoffs to the Giants. 45 touchdowns and over 4,500 yards are impressive enough but his NFL all time high 122.5 QB rating was mind blowing.

3) Maurice Jones Drew, HB, Jacksonville Jaguars

MJD gets the nod over Brees barely, but Jones Drew has been fighting an uphill battle all year to win the rushing title for 2011. With the horrendous Blaine Gabbert throwing the ball, the whole of the Jags offense has been channeled through him.  I saw one stat saying he made up 60% of the Jags total offense, for a non QB that is ridiculous and just shows how key he was to Jacksonville this year.
