Tony Gonzalez Announces He Will Retire After This Season

Daniel Shirey-US PRESSWIRE

Earlier today, Tony Gonzalez announced that the 2012 season will be his last in the NFL.

This comes as no surprise whatsoever as he recently signed a one year deal and is basically giving himself one last shot to win a superbowl ring. Gonzalez, 36 has never won a playoff game in his entire hall of fame career and has been long overdue to win at least one postseason game.

Tony G has showed no signs of slowing down yet as he recorded 80 catches for 875 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2012. Despite getting up there in age his elite physical shape has allowed him to continue playing at an incredibly high level. He will again be the safety blanket for Matt Ryan and be the target Atlanta look to over the middle.

I really hope we can win a superbowl next year (obviously!) not just for myself and all Atlanta fans, but for Tony G who is one player that really deserves to get a ring before he hangs up his cleats.
