We have got a fun discussion post for you guys today. While I personally loved the Julio Jones trade, it is always interesting to know who we could of got instead. As draft picks by themselves are pretty meaningless lets attach some names (based on who was selected at that point in the draft) next to them and see if you still like the trade afterwards.
2011 1st round pick (27th Overall) – WR Torrey Smith, DE Brooks Reid or TE Kyle Rudolph
2011 2nd round pick (59th Overall) – RB DeMarco Murray, G Will Rackley or WR Greg Little
2011 4th round pick (124th Overall) – RB Taiwan Jones, CB Davon House or RB Jacquizz Rodgers (hang on we got him anyway!)
For the 2012 picks I’ve assumed we would have a similar type of a season and would pick 22nd overall, and i have ruled out some players that i would assume to be gone by that point in the draft.
2012 1st round pick (22nd Overall) – OT Mike Adams, DE Nick Perry or C Peter Konz
2012 4th round pick (118th Overall) – WR Marvin McNutt, OT Levy Adcock or OT Andrew Datko
Obviously, with the 2011 picks we have the benefit of hindsight. We know DeMarco Murray had a great rookie year and would have been a great 2nd round pick, but in the NFL you can’t make decisions on maybes.
Was it too much to give up? If Julio Jones becomes a top 5 receiver in the NFL, which he is more than capable of doing it was a great move in my opinion.
So what do you guys think? Was the move to get quality over quantity the right move?
