Falcons Looking To Extend Matt Ryan

The Falcons plan to explore a contract extension with QB Matt Ryan in the coming weeks, according to Jason La Canfora.

Ryan, 26, has two years left on his six-year, $72 million rookie deal, but Atlanta wants to be proactive and work out a multiyear extension this offseason if possible.

No doubt Ryan should be extended. Ryan is the franchise QB and makes sense to secure him with the team long term. It may help clear a bit of cap space to boot. In my opinion it makes sense to extend him sooner rather than later while his value won’t quite be elite money. Without a playoff win in his career to date, he realistically can’t expect top 5 QB money like Joe Flacco is asking for. Let’s say Falcons go on a deep playoff run next year, Ryan’s value could sky-rocket.
