As we talked about a couple days ago, the Atlanta Falcons could potentially target Mario Williams in free-agency. While that scenario is a little far fetched, a more likely one has presented itself: signing the Jaguars Jeremy Mincey.
Mincey is not an elite defensive end. He is not John Abraham, and he is certainly not Mario Williams. But what he IS is just as important. He is a serviceable 4-3 defensive end who had 8 sacks in 2011, and gets consistent pressure on the opponents quarterback. He would also probably cost slightly less than half of what Mario Williams would demand.
Mincey would fit well with Atlanta, especially as the Falcons re-build their defensive line. If they decide to build the line through the draft the next few seasons, I could realistically see the Falcons bringing in Mincey to generate a bit of a pass rush and help offset the loss of John Abraham. He would definitely be an affordable pass-rusher to add to the Falcon’s defensive front.
