Marcus McNeill Released by Chargers

Of special note and importance for Atlanta Falcons fans, reports have confirmed that the San Diego Chargers have released veteran Pro-Bowl Left Tackle Marcus McNeill. After not being medically cleared by team physicians, McNeill will hit the free-agent market at 4 P.M. today. I wouldn’t be shocked if he were to be signed this afternoon or early tomorrow.

McNeill’s neck has been his greatest problem, but if any Falcons fans are concerned with bringing in injured players, this article by The New York Times should allay any fears. The Falcons team of physicians and physical therapists will be at McNeill’s disposal to improve his health, should he sign with Atlanta. $7 million in cap room is more than enough to sign this free agent and have maybe a couple million left over.
