Falcons shoot for 7-0

This week the Atlanta Falcons travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles in their hunt to continue their perfect season. This is the NFL and perfect seasons simply don’t happen, but I don’t see the Falcons’ coming to an end this week. With both teams coming off a bye week we can expect them to be fresh and ready to play on Sunday.
The Falcons enter the game with an offense that averages 28.5 points a game compared to the Eagles’ 17.2. It will be up to the Eagles’ defense to contain the Falcons’ potent offense and I don’t believe they will be up to the task. In addition to breaking in a newly promoted defensive coordinator the Eagles give up 226.3 passing yards and 104.5 rushing yards a game. This should give the Falcons the opportunity to move the ball and put some points on the board.
On the other side of the ball the Atlanta defense looks to control Michael Vick and the rest of the Eagles’ offense. I still consider the Philadelphia offense a force to be reckoned with even if the stats don’t necessarily back it up. I guess I just can’t count Mike Vick and LeSean McCoy out. The good news for the Falcons is that the Eagles have been careless with the football, giving up 10 turnovers on the season. The Falcons are giving up 223.3 yards through the air and 143.8 yards on the ground per game. The Eagles’ offense has had success running the ball gaining 122 rushing yards per game so I look for them to try to attack the Falcons’ rush defense early and often. If the Falcons can shut down LeSean McCoy and keep Mike Vick contained the Eagles will be forced to try to move the ball through the air. The Eagles have met with some success in the passing game, gaining 257 yards per game. If the Falcons are able to make the Eagles’ offense one dimensional though it will force Vick to throw from the pocket, something that he has struggled with over the years. Once Vick and the running game are contained the defense can focus on covering the receivers and keeping Vick off balance. If the Falcons defense can control the Eagles’ offense I think that the Falcons will get their seventh victory of the season tomorrow winning 24-20.
