The Atlanta Falcons have been remarkably healthy in this 2012 season. They’ve been very lucky, and it’s important to realize that. They also got quite a scare Sunday against Philadelphia, but recent news has since allayed their fears.
In the fourth quarter of the game between the Falcons and the Eagles, linebacker Sean Weatherspoon suffered an ankle injury. It didn’t look extremely serious on initial review, but Weatherspoon left the field of play, didn’t return, and rode in a cart off the field. That gave rise to the idea that Weatherspoon had been ‘carted off’, and people began theorizing that ‘Spoon would be out for the season.
Luckily, that isn’t even close to the case. Weatherspoon underwent an MRI yesterday, and the results of that weren’t completely clear. But what is clear is that Weatherspoon’s ankle injury is classified as minor, and depending on how he looks in practice, he could play against the Dallas Cowboys.
That really depends on a lot. How healthy will ‘Spoon be by next Sunday night? I have no idea, and neither does anyone else. But Weatherspoon is a fierce compeititor, and wouldn’t like being out of the lineup. The Falcons can ill afford it as well. I would expect him to be limited in practice this week, and then play on Sunday.
