Former Falcons backup quarterback Luke McCown signed with the New Orleans Saints earlier today, according to his agent Mike McCartney.
McCown signed with the Falcons on August 28th after the team released backup quarterback Chris Redman.
As of right now, the only quarterback that is behind Matt Ryan is Dominique Davis. Davis will be entering his second season in the NFL and with the Falcons this year. It is hard to imagine that the Falcons could depend on Davis as the team’s backup quarterback, considering this year will only be his second year in the league. Also, it is hard to imagine that the Falcons would even be comfortable with the idea of Davis taking over the offense if there was a scenario where Ryan went down.
There are plenty of backup quarterbacks still on the market for the Falcons. One name to keep an eye out for is Colt McCoy. McCoy could be the odd man out in Cleveland since the team seems to still be sticking with second year quarterback Brandon Weeden and they recently signed Jason Campbell to a two year deal.
