Tony Gonzalez is back and ready for action!
Before Tony Gonzalez came back to Atlanta, he and Mike Smith had a deal that would allow him to miss the majority of training camp to go see his kid start playing football. I’m sure that in 12 or 13 years, his son will be drafted to some team (please be the Falcons) and will make history himself.
It was a great obligation Tony had before he made the decision to come back and being the class act that he is, he held up his end of the deal. Now he gets to come the Atlanta and make a statement.
This is very exciting to me and should be exciting to a lot of fans. Against the Bengals, the Falcons moved the ball well while only targeting Roddy twice and going off of Harry Douglas. Against the Ravens, the Falcons starters ended up 20-7 while sparingly using Roddy White and without Tony Gonzalez. We saw some impressive stuff in training camp and still haven’t seen all the pieces there. We won’t get to see that until the first week against New Orleans since White will be sitting out for the next two games. To say the least, it is still a mystery on how powerful this offense can be.
Chase Coffman was filling in nicely for Gonzalez and Toilolo looked like he was making some major progress as well. Both guys are good receivers for this offense to utilize, but it sure is nice to see the master back in action.
The next time you’ll be able to see Gonzalez in action at home is August 29th against Jacksonville, the final preseason game of the year. You can find Falcons tickets for as low as $5 for that match up. If Gonzalez doesn’t suit up for the fourth preseason game, you can still buy tickets for only $37 to the home opener against St. Louis.
