Is This Julio’s Year?

For years,  Roddy White has been the go-to-guy for Matt Ryan.  Many anticipated last season would be the year that Julio broke through the “No.2″ label and finally emerge as the No. 1 receiver for the Dirty Birds.  That was not the case, as Roddy outgained Julio in yards, targets, receptions, and first downs.  Quintorris has been creating quite a buzz in training camp this offseason, as expected, but the lethal downfield threat has yet to overthrow White as Matt Ryan’s favorite target. That’s not to say Julio isn’t a household name at this point, just that 84 is still Ryan’s favorite number.  With that said, Mr. White is beginning the last lap of his lustrous career, and the younger, more athletic wideout is now entering his prime.  Can this be the year Jones establishes himself as the best WR in Atlanta?

I think it will play out similar to last year, with Ryan targeting whichever of the two who isn’t double covered. But I do believe that after what went down against the 9ers with Julio he will become the more reliable option for Ryan. Not that Roddy won’t be, it’s just that Julio’s athleticism allows to catch passes most receivers only dream of.
