Jacquizz Rodgers Will Step Up in Place of Steven Jackson

Jacquizz Rodgers is going to have to step up big time in the next few games while Steven Jackson recovers.  Anyone that watches Atlanta knows that Mike Smith likes to run the ball when he can.  He’s smart enough to know when to abandon the run when it’s pointless and going nowhere, but a running game sure helps.  Since Steven Jackson is injured for a few weeks, Rodgers will get the job of the starting running back.

Smith made the comment in the off-season that he believes that Quizz could be an every-down back.  Anyone that just goes and looks at the stats in the first two games won’t be impressed.  I’ll also implore you to try and find a running lane on the majority of those carries.  I know I couldn’t.  His playmaking ability that we saw a lot of last season is still there, he was able to do a lot of good stuff at the end of the game last Sunday.

I believe that Rodgers does have it in him to replace Steven Jackson, at least for the short term.  He’s everything Steven Jackson is, only wrapped in a smaller package.  He can pick up the blitz, he can run to the outside, he can power through a defender, and he can catch the pass.  He’s a good player and he’ll have to step up against the Dolphins and Patriots.

How do you think he does?
