It’s starting to seem less like an injury bug and more like an injury plague.
With LB Sean Weatherspoon’s season-ending Achilles injury on Tuesday, Falcons fans are in here-we-go again mode, harkening back to the delightful injury run of 2013 that saw Stephen Jackson, Julio Jones and Roddy White all get taken out.
Should there be an upside to the Weatherspoon injury, it’s that there is a bit of depth behind him, with Joplo Bartu and Paul Worrilow as well as Prince Shembo, who has reportedly impressed coaches this offseason.
NFL.com reported that the Falcons are taking a look at former New Orleans Saints LB Jonathan Vima. The three-time Pro Bowler, even at 32, is still a ball-hawking beast and would provide an immediate hammer at the Weatherspoon spot.
Weatherspoon’s injury is unfortunate, but it is hopeful that this is the rare major league knockout, and not just more of the same in a long line of injuries that will sink 2014.
