Atlanta Falcons Cut Jacques Smith, Mickey Shuler, Several Others

The Atlanta Falcons, per Vaughn McClure of ESPN, have waived OLB Jacques Smith, TE Mickey Shuler, and WR Jeremy Ebert today.

The Falcons are still in the process of cutting down to 53 players, but Shuler and Smith were the most notable cuts that were made.

Shuler was impressive in training camp and preseason, before getting struck with a concussion which kept him out of a game. If he passes waivers, which he probably won’t, the Falcons should consider putting him onto the practice squad and hopefully getting him to the active roster sometime this season.

Jacques Smith was heavily featured on HBO’s Hard Knocks. He got into a few ruffles against veterans in practice, and even got ejected in the third preseason contest. Despite his anger problems however, he is a ruthless and aggressive pass rusher.
