The Atlanta Falcons have gotten off to a 2-1 start, with two huge wins within the division. If the Falcons are going to make a run at the playoffs, they must stay healthy.

According to Vaughn McClure of ESPN, Roddy White, Devin Hester, Harry Douglas, and Antone Smith were all held out of practice today. Head Coach Mike Smith will not disclose their reasoning’s for not practicing until Wednesday when the injury report has to be released by.  We already know Roddy is dealing with a hamstring issue. Harry left last Thursday’s game with an undisclosed foot injury.   I have no idea why Devin and Antone were not practicing but let’s hope neither player has a serious injury as they are both explosive players on the offense and special teams.

The Falcons have already lost starting left tackle Sam Baker in the preseason to a torn patella tendon. They also lost starting linebacker Sean Weatherspoon during the off-season with a torn Achilles tendon. Offensive Guard Mike Johnson and rookie Linebacker Marquis Spruill also went down during training camp with season ending injuries. Drew Davis was initially expected to win the 4th roster spot but he is currently listed on the physically unable to perform list along with backup safety Zeke Motta. Devin Hester now appears to be firmly planted as the 4th receiver because he is a big time playmaker.

Injuries are a part of football; however this team has experienced enough injuries over the course of the past two years. Honestly the Falcons just don’t have the depth to sustain multiple injuries throughout the year. All four of these players are vital to the Falcons success. I’m assuming that Devin Hester’s injury is not serious since he finished the game and had some cramping issues. Hamstring injuries can be nagging and re-occurring issues as Roddy knows all to well. He dealt with hamstring issues last year. We will have to wait to see how serious Harry and Antone injuries are on Wednesday. Can the Falcons win without these playmakers?
