Report: Atlanta Falcons working out free agent Jake Long

The Atlanta Falcons look set to bolster their offensive line once again with reports suggesting they are working out free agent Jake Long.

Long spent five years with the Miami Dolphins before joining the St. Louis Rams in 2013. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl four times in his career (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), was a first-team All-Pro in 2010 and a second-team All-Pro in 2009.

Unfortunately for Long, he’s been hit with injuries throughout his career and has had two ACL tears requiring surgery.

Assuming he stays healthy, Long would be an excellent, experienced addition to the Falcons’ offensive line. He would add excellent cover if he isn’t brought in to start.

This doesn’t mean the Falcons would be giving up on Jake Matthews, though.

Matthews showed plenty of potential and has a promising career in front of him in Atlanta. What Long does provide though is solid, veteran help behind him if needed.

If he can stay healthy, the Falcons would have a four-time Pro Bowler on the team, and that’s no bad thing for a team in need of better play along the line.

What do you think, Falcons fans?
