The Atlanta Falcons made a tweak to the bottom of their roster by signing former Chicago Bears center Cornelius Edison and releasing receiver Reginald Davis III

It’s a never ending shuffle at the bottom of an NFL roster leading up to training camp and the Atlanta Falcons continue to churn theirs in search of some players who can help. Their most recent moves included signing former Chicago Bears center Cornelius Edison and releasing rookie wide out Reginald Davis III.

Edison was a fixture for Portland State University, but entered the league undrafted in 2015. His season was lost due to injury and he spent the year unsigned. He was eventually inked to a futures contract by Chicago after the regular season was over. He made the active roster for a brief spell, but wound up being released and placed on the practice squad. The team again signed him to a futures contract following this past season, but then released him again on May 11 of 2017.

As for Reginald Davis III, he was an undrafted free agent signing out of Texas Tech for Atlanta. In four seasons for the Red Raiders he recorded 97 receptions for 1,301 yards and 18 touchdowns. The receiving position is pretty full with Julio Jones, Mohamed Sanu, Taylor Gabriel, Justin Hardy, Andre Roberts, Devin Fuller and B.J. Daniels all ahead of him on the depth chart, which made his odds long to begin with.

The offensive line isn’t so deep. Ben Garland and Trevor Robinson are their current backup centers and fourth-round pick Sean Harlow is set to be the primary backup guard to Andy Levitre and Wes Schweitzer. The position flex Edison offers as both a center and a guard could be appealing to  the coaching staff as they make some final decisions. Whenever one player can fill two roles, that’s a huge advantage for him.
