Andy Reid, the long time Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach who has lead the Eagles to 9 playoff appearances, has lost a loved one. Garrett Reid, 29 year old son of Andy Reid, was found dead in his room at Lehigh University, where the Eagles hold training camp. The cause of death is still unknown.

Garrett Reid was a troubled child. He had his fair share of run-ins with the law. He was arrested on drug charges and two different traffic charges in ’07, and was in jail off and on in ’09. He used to deal drugs in his early 20′s, which he got a thrill out of. The good news is he was turning himself around. He got a job with the Eagles as an assistant to the strength coaches.

Andy didn’t show up to practice today, but nobody blames him. Although I don’t have a son myself, I can imagine how hard it is to lose your own son. The amount of time he will sit out is unknown. It sounds as if he will sit out as long as he needs, because Eagles’ GM Howie Roseman said “We’ve been with Andy a long time. He’s always been strong for us; we’re going to be strong for him right now.”

There isn’t much more to say about this terrible situation, except my prayers and I am sure many other’s go out to the entire Reid family.
