The Atlanta Falcons had a tough visit in New Orleans as they were dominated in all areas of the game on Thursday. But was that unfortunate loss enough to derail the Atlanta from conference contention? Or was the it the timely wake up call that they needed?
Behind the emergence of RB Devonta Freeman, the Falcons were pulled along into the tops of the division before the untimely loss. That being said, the Falcons are still in the perfect position to maintain conference supremacy in the end of it all.
Besides the rise to superstardom of Freeman, the past couple of weeks the re-emergence of Roddy White has been a welcomed sight, showing that the Falcons may have one of the greatest packages in the conference, if not the NFL.
But now what remains to be seen is if the defense can continue to grow into a cohesive force and shut down the offenses that are beginning to find holes in the zone, making it very difficult to stop teams like the Saints, who exposed these areas.
The teams around the league and division were watching, and the success in their fight for the playoffs will have to be shouldered by the defense, because a great defense can stifle a great offense on the occasion, and the Falcons will surely be tested in the division when they face the Panthers.
The offense will continue to place this team in a position to win each game as Atlanta continues to navigate through the NFL’s ‘easiest’ schedule. But the Falcons must continue to become more of a balanced team on offense and defense, or they will find themselves on the outside looking in after their incredible start to the season.
