Atlanta Falcons: 7-round mock draft
Round 4, 129th overall (From Arizona): WR Malcolm Mitchell, UGA
Just because the Atlanta Falcons signed Mohamed Sanu to be their No. 2 receiver doesn’t mean they won’t use one of their draft picks on a wide receiver. Signing Sanu basically changed them from drafting a receiver in the second or third round to one of the later rounds and that’s perfectly fine.
Since the Falcons picked up an extra fourth-round pick in their earlier trade, drafting UGA receiver Malcolm Mitchell should be the pick. The Falcons still lack a deep threat outside of Julio Jones and Mitchell just might be that guy.
Mitchell had a killer combine. He ran the fifth-fastest 40-yard dash at 4.45 seconds and that alone moved his draft stock up from a seventh-round pick to a fourth-round pick. Mitchell never reached his full potential while at UGA. He dealt with some injuries including a knee injury but finished up his senior season very strong.
Mitchell can catch passes with the best of them. He has great hands and can catch pretty much anything thrown his way. You don’t have to worry about dropped passes with Mitchell and that’s always a huge plus.
Mitchell is also a fantastic route runner and if drafted by the Falcons will make an impact as a rookie. If knock on wood Sanu doesn’t pan out, Mitchell could replace him as the Falcons’ second-string receiver behind Julio Jones or better yet, lineup with both of them and give Atlanta the best receiving corps in the NFL.
