With March rapidly approaching, General Manager Thomas Dimitroff and the Atlanta Falcons have some tough decisions to make in regards to how this roster will look for 2019.
With 21 Free Agents currently on the roster heading into the new league year in just a couple weeks, Dimitroff is tasked with some tough and some not-so-tough roster decisions as we head into Free Agency and of course the NFL Draft.
As I stated last week, I believe that the Falcons will address the Offensive Line issues in Free Agency. The learning curve is steeper on the offensive side of the ball than it is on defense and this high-powered offense needs plug and play caliber lineman now, not draft and develop for three years down the road.
I will state this early, the only way I see the Falcons placing a franchise tag on a player is if the club and Grady Jarrett cannot come to an agreement on an extension. There is not another player on this roster, including Tevin Coleman, that is worth paying the average salary of the five highest paid players at that position.
I would be shocked if negotiations between the Falcons and Grady got to that point.
Arthur Blank has been a lot more vocal this off-season that any of the prior seasons as the Falcons owner. I have speculated on several posts that the United MLS title has him hungry for the American sports trophy that matters most – the Lombardi.
Just last week Mr. Blank let it be known that Dimitroff and Coach Dan Quinn were not mutually exclusive and one could lose his job and the other stay. Reading between those lines, Dimitroff better put together the best Offensive Line possible or he is out.
That said, here are the Top 5 Falcons free agents that Thomas Dimitroff must bring back:
