There are several young guys on this roster who are hoping to stick around long term in 2019 and special teams is how they are going to do that. Most of them got their first chances last week and it did not go well for any of them.

Olimade Zaccheaus had a few opportunities to return kicks for the Falcons. He had two punt returns for no yards but most importantly he fumbled one of them. Thankfully for Zaccheaus he was able to recover to avoid a complete disaster, but he has to be able to instill confidence in his coaching staff that he can be a difference maker as a return guy and that did not happen last week.

Marcus Green was one of the Falcons sixth round choices in 2019 and was brought in specifically for his return potential as we was one of college football’s best return men his last two years at UL-Monroe. Like Zaccheaus, he had a fumble on punt return but showed some speed and ability as a kick-off return specialist. Last week versus the Broncos he had two returns for 51 yards, including a nice 28 yard return.

CJ Worton got a lot playing time last week, both as a wide receiver as well as a kickoff return specialist. Worton was terrible on the offensive side of the ball. Terrible route running and dropped several wide open throws from both Benkert and Schaub. If Worton has any chance to make this team, he will have to do that here on special teams.
