Atlanta Falcons will take on division rival Carolina Panthers Sunday in Charlotte at Bank of America stadium.

It is really difficult to call the Panthers an Atlanta Falcons rival; actually, it is really really difficult. These two teams have played each other a total of 48 times and the Falcons hold a 30-18 advantage. The Falcons have been dominant at home (18-6) and win half of the time in Charlotte (12-12). The Falcons and Panthers have never met in the playoffs.

In 24 years, the Falcons have swept the season series nine times while the Panthers have swept the Falcons just three times, the last time was 2013. With Matt Ryan, the Falcons have swept the Panthers four times – 2010, 2012, 2016 and 2018.

The Atlanta Falcons also hold several other records in this rivalry:

  • Longest win streak: 6
  • Longest home win streak: 7
  • Most points in a game: 51
  • Most shutouts: 2

This rivalry was supposed to get a jump start when the Panthers selected Atlanta native Cam Newton in the 2011 NFL draft and it just never happened. Cam Newton had some disastrous games against his hometown team during his career. Unfortunately, he may never see the Falcons again wearing a Panthers uniform as he was put on Injured Reserve and the rumors are that the Panthers are actively trying to trade the former MVP.

Let’s take a look at five of the best Falcons performances against the Panthers.
