Eric Bieniemy will not be the next coach of the Atlanta Falcons.

For almost a year and a half, Atlanta Falcons fans have wanted Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy to be the next head coach of the franchise and that clearly is not going to happen.

While he cannot officially be hired by a club until after the Chiefs playoff run is over, Atlanta sports media is reporting that Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is their first choice, and should he turn it down, they are going to hire Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady.

When you look at all the vacancies that were open just a few days ago, the Atlanta Falcons had to be the most attractive job for a head coach.

Draft picks, solid young core of Pro Bowl-caliber players, and veteran leadership from a couple of future Hall of Fame players. Unlike franchises like Houston, there is no dysfunction between the elite players in Atlanta and the franchise itself.

Arthur Smith is the best candidate still on the market.

Unlike Eric Bieniemy, Arthur Smith has actually been in charge of a high powered offense that saw running back Derrick Henry go from Heisman bust to the best running back in the league and the seventh player in league history to rush for 2,000 or more yards.

Smith has also turned around the career of quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The Atlanta Falcons have not had an offensive-minded head coach since Dan Reeves almost 20 years ago. Sorry, I refuse to acknowledge Bobby Petrino.

While this is something that the entire fan base has been wishing for, we all know that the next head coach of the Atlanta Falcons will only be successful if he can identify, hire and keep great assistant coaches.

That is the area that Mike Smith and Dan Quinn ultimately were horrible at and what cost them their jobs.

The Falcons have zeroed in on their next general manager as well as their next head coach, hopefully, this franchise will see that pay off over the coming months with free agency, the draft, and the 2021 NFL season.
