Atlanta Falcons should look elsewhere to fix WR position

The Atlanta Falcons have a ton of players who will be free agents when the new league year starts. They also have to make some tough choices when it comes to bringing back certain players at the wide receiver position.

Those decisions revolve around Russell Gage and Calvin Ridley. There is a chance that neither of them will return for the 2022-23 season.

The Falcons should look outside the building to find wide receiver help

There is a debate going around on if the Falcons should trade Calvin Ridley. If they do, it would save them around $11 million, but they would be watching their star-wide receiver walk out of the building.

Then comes Russell Gage who was expected to make another big jump this season. There were hints of what he could do—especially later in the season—but overall he was a disappointment.

So where should the Atlanta Falcons look to fix their wide receiver group?

The answers should lie outside the building where there are numerous options that could instantly find Matt Ryan more options in the passing game.

Free agency is where it should start, guys like Chris Godwin, Allen Robinson, Mike Williams, Davante Adams, and Sammy Watkins are all pending free agents. That is a lot of talent that may be available when free agency kicks off.

The Falcons should start their search there. One name to keep an eye out for is Mike Williams, the big body receiver from the Los Angeles Chargers. The Falcons may be able to snag him for a reasonable price, and he is exactly what they need at the position.

If Atlanta strikes out in the free agency market, then there is always the draft. Do not expect them to select a receiver with their top pick, as this is a deep receiver pool and they could afford to wait until later to grab a difference-maker.

Possibly, they could use the Julio Jones pick in the second round to find their next pass-catcher? It would only be fitting.

All in all, Terry Fontenot should move on from Gage and Ridley. He should rework the position and get a fresh start.
