 2. If they cannot trade Mike Davis cutting him saves over $2-million in cap space

Mike Davis was the most exciting addition for the Atlanta Falcons last off-season and was expected to help establish the run game. Instead, Cordarrelle Patterson had a breakout season while Davis took a step back and failed to live up to expectations.

Now both players could be leaving Atlanta depending on how contract negotiations play out with Patterson. Regardless, Davis should be on his way out of Atlanta.

The final straw should be the fact that Mike Davis fumbled in key situations and often was tackled at the line of scrimmage. As great as he appears to be for the Atlanta locker room and the team dynamic his play isn’t worthy of the contract he was given.

Considering how little cap space Atlanta has they will be looking closely at every contract on their roster. When they come to Mike Davis it is hard to see the team not moving on from Davis either via cut or trade.

The one thing that could save Davis here is the fact he is a bruiser who played well against the pass rush. He did a great job picking up the blitz and often gave Matt Ryan a bit of extra time.

However, while this is a great trait it shouldn’t be enough to save a running back who underperformed his contract at a position with a myriad of off-season options.
