5 Atlanta Falcons who could be traded during the season
By Nick Halden
5. Marcus Mariota
Who wouldn’t be excited to see Feleipe Franks time in Atlanta? Perhaps no one but if you’re rebuilding and Mariota is having a serviceable year there is always a team looking for a quarterback to fill in due to injuries. Mariota isn’t a long-term answer at the position and Atlanta could trade Mariota with Franks on the roster or if they draft a quarterback. If they were to draft a quarterback allowing Mariota to start half the season before trading him makes a lot of sense for a team that knows Mariota is a bridge.
If the quarterback has any trade value heading to the deadline the team shouldn’t hesitate to move a player who isn’t a long-term solution. Even if Atlanta doesn’t draft a quarterback allowing Franks or a veteran option to start the rest of the season.
Tanking may not be the right word but this is a team that knows they cannot win this season. Mariota may not hold any trade value starting on a roster this bad but with a hot star could become a trade option due to the value of his position. The Falcons won’t have a hard time replacing a player who is a backup option for the majority of the league.
