3. Giving A.J. Terrell help in the secondary

Watching Atlanta’s defense last season was frustrating for a myriad of reasons including the team’s inability to help A.J. Terrell in what was a breakout season. The corner established himself as one of the best at his position in the league despite being a part of a terrible defense. Teams didn’t have to concern themselves with Terrell when the rest of their options were always open.

With alarming consistency whoever Terrell wasn’t covering was open and allowed his great season to go underappreciated. This off-season, however, Atlanta went a long way in fixing this issue re-signing corner Isaiah Oliver and signing Casey Hayward. Oliver took a huge step forward this past season before a season-ending injury and gave the Falcons reason to think he will thrive as a slot corner.

Hayward is an established veteran who will have a huge impact on this Atlanta defense. Bringing in Hayward gives Atlanta the best secondary they have had since the 2016 season. While the team is unlikely to win many games next season the additions in the secondary will help the defense improve and avoid the blowouts we watched whenever Atlanta played a good team in the 2021 season.
