2. The Saints are paying for the Drew Brees era

The bill is finally coming due for the Sean Payton and Drew Brees years the Saints enjoyed. They are heading into next season without a starting quarterback and negative cap space with their highest-paid player clearly far past his prime.

Add in the fact that Dennis Allen isn’t a good head coach and it isn’t out of the question that this Saints team is competing for the top slot in the draft next season. Andy Dalton and Jameis Winston have been their last two answers at the quarterback position and it is hard to see a top quarterback wanting to land in New Orleans. They lack weapons or the cap space to bring in talent around whoever the starting quarterback in 2023 is.

Aside from watching their own team return to the playoffs, there may not be a more exciting outcome for Atlanta fans than watching the Saints struggle. Unless they land a top quarterback and work cap magic it is impossible to see this team going anywhere other than the bottom of the division in the 2023 season.
