1. The Atlanta Falcons have the best head coach in the division

Let’s start from the bottom of the division when it comes to coaching and point out just how terrible Todd Bowles was despite having a myriad of weapons on the roster and the GOAT in Tom Brady. Add in a great defensive roster and the fact this Tampa team went 8-10 has to be attributed to coaching and an aging roster. It would be surprising to see Tampa keep Bowles next season it is time for a rebuild and Bowles isn’t going to be the one to oversee it.

This takes us to New Orleans and a Dennis Allen-led team that has the worst cap situation in the league. In four seasons as a head coach in this league, Allen has only one more win than Smith has had in two seasons with a rebuilding Atlanta team. Allen is a great coordinator but New Orleans is far from the Sean Payton days and will be competing for a bottom of the division in 2023.

The Carolina Panthers adding Frank Reich is an underwhelming move for a coach who was terribly inconsistent in Indy and has a far worse roster situation than Smith. Reich’s supposed undoing in Indy was the inability to find a starting quarterback. Going with a new starter each season Reich was unable to bring stability to Indy why would that change in Carolina?

Arthur Smith for two seasons has had a roster capable of 3-4 wins. Each of the past two seasons the Falcons have won seven games and most of this is due to Smith’s offense and the ability to get the most out of a bad roster. Whether he can win at the highest level is yet to be determined but there is no question about his ability to coach an offense and overachieve with a bad roster.
