3. Taylor Heinicke
Another former Washington starter who would be a great fit for Arthur Smith’s system and provide competition for Ridder is Heinicke. Taylor is the ultimate overachiever making it into the starting lineup not based on his ability but his effort.
If Ridder is injured or unable to hold onto the starting job Heinicke is a great bridge option who has proven he isn’t afraid of the moment. Many forget in Tom Brady’s first season with the Bucs arguably the team’s toughest test was against Taylor Heinicke who willed Washington back into the game late on the road against Tom Brady.
Atlanta has watched Taylor’s ability as well with Heinicke leading a clutch win a season ago against the Falcons in one of his better games that season. Ridder is clearly more talented than Heinicke and should be able to beat the veteran out for the starting job giving Atlanta a great second option Arthur Smith feels confident can win games if forced into action.
