1. Cleveland Browns could replace Deshaun Watson with Kirk Cousins
No one envies the Cleveland Browns right now. They have the NFL's most overpaid quarterback in Deshaun Watson who can't stay healthy and has regressed since the blockbuster trade in 2022.
Watson was already on the cusp of getting benched before his season-ending injury. The Browns are stuck in a terrible situation and need to find a way to move on from him. They would need to then find an answer at the position for 2025
A quick solution to their quarterback issues could be Kirk Cousins, whom they have a strong connection to. Head coach Kevin Stefanski coached Cousins in Minnesota, and we all know how much Vikings coaches raved about the veteran.
After so much failure at the position, Stefanski may target a solution he already knows; a solution like Kirk Cousins.
2. San Francisco 49ers may target Kirk Cousins rather than extend Brock Purdy
Kyle Shanahan has a lot of questions to answer before the 2025 season. One of those is the belief he has in Brock Purdy as a true franchise quarterback.
Purdy is having the worst season in his short career. If the 49ers realize that he can't elevate a team that isn't perfectly healthy then they may decline to give him a long-term extension. That opens the door for Kirk Cousins.
When Kirk Cousins became a free agent for the first time, Kyle Shanahan wanted him. It is no secret how much the former Falcons coach likes Cousins. It may be too tempting for him if he becomes available again, especially if he isn't fully committed to Purdy.
3. Minnesota Vikings might bring Kirk Cousins right back
Sam Darnold has been outstanding which has been a blessing and a curse for the Minnesota Vikings. He is winning them games but he will be a highly-coveted free agent after the season. No doubt, multiple teams will push his price past what he is worth.
So, if the Vikings lose the bidding war as they did with Kirk Cousins this past offseason, they may run it back with the familiar quarterback.
Cousins also gives JJ McCarthy a mentor if he isn't ready to take the keys to the franchise. It would be a crazy story that would have many Vikings fans irate. A reunion is much more likely than you think.
