Dynasty in the making

When you think of dynasty what do you think?

I think about this:

I will tell you that this is what the Atlanta Falcons are building toward. The Birds may not be the New England Patriots today but I tell you all right now that this team has the building blocks for greatness:

A young QB in Matt Ryan who is a born leader and who is steady under fire and who has a strong arm and an even stronger will to succeed.

Michael Turner who is one of the smartest running backs I have seen play in the game, Turner has the physical attributes and the mental acuity to dominate any and all who attempt to stop him.

Michael Jenkins and Roddy Whiteare sure handed game changing wideouts who make the plays when needed.

But the skill positions are just the beginning and great teams are not made by offenses my friends, the proof of that is in the Cincinnati Bengals. It is in defensive and offensive lines and a strong secondary that a championship team is made. So let’s look at the moves of the Falcons and what is being done to win the franchises first ever championship.

Offseason 2008 running back Michael Turner is signed along with TE Ben Hartsock and talented safety Erik Coleman all in the first two days of free agency. The offseason continued with the signing of the always amazing Jason Elam and the trade of DeAngelo Hall to the Oakland Raiders

The Falcons also released a few fan favorites Alge Crumpler and Warrick Dunn.  And then then came the draft…..

Matt Ryan  is the third overall pick but do you know how close we came to not gettting him? We won a coin toss. Acoin toss that I feel has turned the fortune of an entire franchise and I say that coin should be bronzed and put in some kind of shrine in downtown Atlanta as far as I am concerned.

Curtis Lofton, Sam Baker, Chevis Jackson, Harry Douglas, Thomas DeCoud, Kroy Biermann the list goes on to make what I feel was the strongest draft by any team that year.

So now the team goes in and wins 11 games and makes the playoffs.

Free agency 2009 gives us the losses of Keith Brooking, Lawyer Milloy, Domonique Foxworth, Grady Jackson, Michael Boley. The signings of Mike Peterson, Brett Romberg filled two key positions and allowed us to position the team for another strong draft to fill positions that will need to be filled with able athletes.

Am I right? Am I wrong? Let’s watch and see.
