Falcons beat Dolphins at home 19-7

The Atlanta Falcons defense made plays, pure an simple. The Miami Dolphins fumbled every chance they had to put points on the board.

If you looked at this game from the outset it looked like a shootout in the making, offenses that can move the ball and defenses that  can be up and down sometimes. But it was all about coaching in this one. The Falcons defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder made his paycheck this week. The D came out looking strong from the first snap and never let up. Mike Peterson made an electrifying interception on Chad Pennington and the plays just kept coming.

Matt Ryan is for real folks, Michael Turner struggled as the Dolphins run defense kept him in check at every turn. It is the 2nd year Boston College product who fought early game nerves and settled down for a nice 229 yards on 22 for 36 passing. Jerious Norwood was a more pronounced part of the offense in this game and I hope it continues because I like the added weapon it gives what is expected to be a top offense.

Tony Gonzalez is a hall of famer for a reason, he makes plays and he has the best hands for any tight end in history. He made 5 catches for 73 yards including a jaw dropping 20 yard score. Gonzalez shows why he is so great and will continue to do so.

Pennington and the rest of his offense looked lost most of the day. The running game just got stuffed all day long by the Falcons front seven. Oh, and speaking of the front seven let’s look at the pass rushers in John Abraham and Kroy Biermann both had 2 sacks each!

This is a great feeling for team that was expected to struggle mightily and gives us a huge advantage in our quest to repeat as the Panthers lost to the Eagles in a complete blowout.

The Falcons face the Panthers at home next Sunday so let’s have a good week and let’s keep it going!
