Samuel brought with him a certain swagger that the Falcons’ defense carried with them throughout the 2012 season. Putting up 4 picks, Samuel rejuvenated his career in Atlanta after being traded to the Falcons for a mere 7th round pick. Asante made his former team rethink their decision, after helping Atlanta to a 13 win season and a NFC Championship birth. With 2013 2nd round pick Robert Alford dethroning Asante after several injuries, it seems as though Samuel is as good as gone in 2014.
Even if the 6 million dollar cap hit entices Atlanta’s front office to let Samuel go, don’t expect a high caliber prospect to be taken to replace the longtime vet.
UPDATE: Asante Samuel has been released.
