2. You Need Depth
Sure, what everyone will remember from the Seattle win was their stifling defense. But, their special teams was just as dominant. And that dominance was because they’re as deep a team as we’ve seen in a long time.
Depth shows up the most on special teams. When you have quality players covering and returning kicks, you’re much more likely to get big plays, and even points, out of them.
Good cap management leads to quality depth. If you don’t overpay for your starters, you have room left to keep talented backups around. Otherwise, the back half of your roster just ends up being practice squad level guys. The Falcons need to be better about their cap management. Adding Scott Pioli to the management team is a good step in the right direction.
