Atlanta Falcons 2014 Mock Draft: Khalil Mack Falls To Six

Round 2, Pick 37: FS Jimmie Ward, Northern Illinois

Even with DeCoud, Free Safety was one of the biggest holes on the Falcons’ defense.  Since cutting DeCoud, the Falcons have added former Jaguar Dwight Lowery, but I don’t believe he’s our future at the Free Safety position.

Jimmie Ward, 5’10” 191 lbs, is a tad undersized compared to the NFL average, but his coverage skills are too good to pass up here in the 2nd.  His quick, fluid hips keep him in range of the ball at all times, and he also isn’t afraid to come up and make a tackle.  He’s an intelligent player, and can easily pick up assignments.

Insert Ward into a group with Moore, Trufant, and Alford, and the Falcons’ secondary will be set for at least the next 4 years.
