#3 The “Real” Defensive Scheme

The Falcons will manufacture pressure with exotic schemes and blitzes. It promises to be chaotic.

Thus far, the Falcons have been extremely conservative in passing situations. There is no way some of the stuff we’ve been playing we’ll see in the regular season. Mike Nolan is a good defensive coordinator. He won’t be leaving both Tyson Jackson and Paul Soliai out there in nickel/dime situations on 3rd and long.

The fact that we have no every-down pass rushing threat, the emphasis on signing multiple cornerbacks in free agency and the focus on linebackers in the draft hints at what we will likely see. The Falcons will manufacture pressure with exotic schemes and blitzes. It promises to be chaotic. They’ll be relying on confusion to disrupt offensive lines and quarterbacks. I’m not even sure we’ll see much of it tonight but hopefully we get glimpses of this “organised chaos” scheme.
