The lightning fast Antone Smith has shown he is deserving of more touches multiple times this season. To put it simply, Smith will find the end zone if you get him the ball. In week 1, Smith took a simple checkdown 54 yards for a touchdown, before running a stretch play in week 3 and breaking off a 39 yard TD. Below you can see Smith’s huge touchdown against the Saints – credit to Fox and the NFL.

Again in week 4, Smith exploded for a huge touchdown, going 48 yards for the biggest play of the game for the Falcons. Antone Smith has carried the ball 10 times at an average of 11.9 yards per carry. Once he turns the corner, he is going to score, as shown in all three of his touchdowns this year. He can bust through contact, runs aggressively between the tackles and ensures defences have to focus on containing him in the box, freeing up the Falcons dynamic receivers. Smith has somehow touched the ball the least of all Falcons RBs, yet has more touchdowns than all of them combined. He has carried the ball 10 times to Steven Jackson’s 50, yet is just 90 yards shy of Jackson’s rushing total. As we’ve argued here at Blogging Dirty, the Falcons need to get Antone Smith more involved. He just might be the best threat we’ve had through 4 weeks.
