Why to watch

Preseason games are far from gripping, nervous viewing, but they provide us an opportunity to see the players aiming to earn their place on the roster. After a brief cameo from the starters, the attention switches over to the young players. Can anyone leave a lasting impression with Dan Quinn?

How will the rookies perform in this game? First round pick Vic Beasley made an impressive start when on the field against the Titans, but the same couldn’t be said of second-rounder Jalen Collins, who is struggling to adapt to NFL life. Tevin Coleman didn’t suit up due to a hamstring injury, but fourth round pick Justin Hardy made some nice plays. These are four players to closely watch against the Jets.

Coleman could make his NFL debut against New York if cleared to play. He is competing with second-year Devonta Freeman to be the lead back for Atlanta. Freeman also missed the Tennessee game due to a hamstring issue, but could return to action in this game. Both players will face late fitness tests ahead of the game, but Quinn won’t take any unnecessary risks with the two backs.
