Why to watch

If you only watch one preseason game, this is the one to tune in for. We will see more time from the starters to get them ready for the regular season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles in two weeks time.

This is also another opportunity to watch key positional battles played out. The running back competition will resume with the return of Tevin Coleman from a hamstring injury; he’s expected to make his debut against the Dolphins. Devonta Freeman, also out with a hamstring issue, will be game day decision. Another battle to watch for is at backup quarterback, especially since veteran Rex Grossman was signed.

The rookies will get more time to get some experience and showcase their talent. Vic Beasley has been outstanding so far and looks to be a real player. The same can’t be said of second round pick Jalen Collins, who has had a rough start, which is common for rookie cornerbacks. Justin Hardy has impressed in short bursts, and Grady Jarrett has shown improvement.

There is still so many roster spots up for grabs, either as a starter or just one of the 53. These battles will continue Saturday and we may get some answers to the most pressing questions.
