Atlanta Falcons waive eight players, including Rex Grossman and T.J. Yates

The Atlanta Falcons have continued to trim their roster, waiving eight players to take the roster to 67 players. Among the cuts are quarterbacks Rex Grossman and T.J. Yates, per the official Atlanta Falcons website:

"The Atlanta Falcons today announced that they have waived S Sean Baker, LB Terrell Manning, T Jake Rodgers, G Jared Smith, and CB Kevin White. The team has also released QB Rex Grossman, DE Cliff Matthews, and QB T.J. Yates."

So what does this mean for the backup quarterback situation?

It looks like the Falcons are moving forward with Sean Renfree, who has looked solid yet unremarkable throughout preseason. An area of his game that’s been impressive has been his protection of the football, not throwing a single interception. His one touchdown pass came on a 25-yard strike to Carlton Mitchell against the Ravens.

When Grossman was signed, it looked like he could be the man poised to take over the No. 2 spot. He wasn’t given long to prove himself, and an average display against the Ravens sealed his fate. Vaughn McClure of ESPN believes the Falcons will be searching for another quarterback, but could Renfree be the man to backup ‘the man’?

What are your thoughts on the roster moves?
